Today the farmer and our good friend Matt worked in the greenhouse setting up a large heated table for our tomato seedlings. They ran a coil of tubing in a spiral on a sheet of plywood. The tubing will run hot water, heated from the woodstove, under the roots of the plants to help them stay warm and grow. This year they need all the help they can get; it’s been a cold, lasting spring – a far cry from last year’s days in the 80’s!
Some seedlings are huddled around the woodstove in the greenhouse, waiting for their first transplant. Meanwhile, back at the house…the south kitchen counter is filled with seedlings as is the south bedroom window. We can’t wait for the weather to heat up so the plants can move to the greenhouse!
